SHOP UPDATE: Sub-rails are finished in John's delivery

 We notched and formed the ends of the cross rails so I could get a little farther under the side rials for support.

 Here are all the rails modified and prepped for installation and welding

 Here we are assembling the new steel rails on the chassis so we can roll the delivery over to the weld shop for welding.

 here is the finished assembly welded and ready for panel installation.

This is why I spent the time on the cross rails. Now the rails extend all the way to the outside of the side rails for maximum strength and support. This is much stronger than the original design which is what we are after.

SHOP UPDATE: Bill's roadster

 the new banjo steering wheel showed up today. Did a test fit to make sure the depth is correct.

 I added the steering shaft hiem and finished the connection to the steering box

 I also added the new chrome drag link so the steering is officially finished.

Here is an original steel 30-31 Ford coupe body. Body is pretty straight and solid. Has very minor rust. Does have a small amount of old body filler as seen in photos. This is another all original steel 30-31 Ford coupe body. This is a solid coupe body. It has some very minor lower rust. The biggest issue is the cracks along the belt line under the quarter windows. It has the quarter window garnish moldings only. It has a complete seat frame. It does not have a decklid and is also missing the panel below the decklid. No bondo. So I officially joined the 32 Ford club. This is a 32 Ford panel truck. Pretty rare. Been stashed away in a storage container for years. I am going to stash it away myself for a while before starting this project. Can't wait to get on it though

SHOP UPDATE: John's 31 Ford deluxe delivery. The journey begins!

 This is John's 31 Ford deluxe delivery. This was the day I stripped it and sent it out for sand blasting.

 This body is a wood inner structure that is skinned in sheet metal.

 The plan is to remove all the wood and replace it with a steel sub-frame that Susi and I will fabricate here in the shop.

 This is the assembled chassis we will be using under the delivery.

 Today I started the process of assembling the body on the chassis. This isn't going to be a fast process for sure. All inner structure for the body was made of wood. We will be systematically be replacing each piece of wood with steel. The cowl is located by stock bolt holes. The rest will be determined as we go.

 I started by using a set of reproduction 2 door sedan sub-rails from Howell's. With a little trimming and finessing I was able to get a nice connection with the cowl. Now I have a steel lower side rail to start attaching the body panels to.

 I hung the doors and pulled the cowl forward to level the doors with the sub-rails and get proper gaps in the threshold. Now I have a solid reference point to build from.

The rails look great and fit very well. We will make some cross braces and get the rear rails bolted down and start fitting the rear quarters. This is going to be fun for sure.
