FOR SALE: 1954 GMC Suburban

Selling for a friend. 1954 GMC Suburban. This was the first year for one piece windshield and Automatic transmission. This is a pretty nice suburban. Very little rust. Nice clean floors and lower quarters. It has a little rust in the very rear as seen in the photos. This is a non running project. Engine is mostly complete all other drive train is there. It has all original seat frames from front to rear. These are extremely hard to find. Doors are all good. Body is pretty straight, has a few dings and dents. The roof is excellent. AFTER HOURS: More decisions

 Susi and I finished installing the drivers side fenders and running boards.

 We added the hood and and tried both styles of headlights. I really like the look of the 39 deluxe but decide to go with the original 40 deluxe so I can use halogen sealed beam bulbs

Its looking like a truck, a few more nights and we should be off to sand blast.

AFTER HOURS: Susi and I got some serious mock up done tonight.

 I wanted to replace this bent up rear cross member.

 My friend Tim was able to get a couple new cross members bent for me.

 I had to do a little notching on the ends and it fits like a glove

 Susi and I started mocking up the new bed. Its has a few fitment issues but nothing we can't deal with.

 The truck is starting to look pretty good

 Tonight we fit the new drivers door on the truck. With a little shimming it should fit really nice.

 We fit the passenger front fender tonight. We are using car fenders. We had to modify them a bit to fit the cowl but they are going to work very well.

 We installed the running board and rear fender as well. We will be working over this rear fender for sure. Its a little ratty but it is steel and I am determined to use it.

This is the first look at the truck at ride height with some fenders. I like it, just low enough to have the look but should be able to be driven anywhere

SHOP UPDATE: Sub-rails are finished in John's delivery

 We notched and formed the ends of the cross rails so I could get a little farther under the side rials for support.

 Here are all the rails modified and prepped for installation and welding

 Here we are assembling the new steel rails on the chassis so we can roll the delivery over to the weld shop for welding.

 here is the finished assembly welded and ready for panel installation.

This is why I spent the time on the cross rails. Now the rails extend all the way to the outside of the side rails for maximum strength and support. This is much stronger than the original design which is what we are after.

SHOP UPDATE: Bill's roadster

 the new banjo steering wheel showed up today. Did a test fit to make sure the depth is correct.

 this is the custom column drop Susi and I made for the angled dash

 I added the steering shaft hiem and finished the connection to the steering box

 I also added the new chrome drag link so the steering is officially finished.

Here is an original steel 30-31 Ford coupe body. Body is pretty straight and solid. Has very minor rust. Does have a small amount of old body filler as seen in photos.
